Not Rising Far From The Ground

"As a prisoner for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy of the calling you have received. Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love." Ephesians 4:1-2
"Yea, all of you, clothe yourselves with humility toward one another, because, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace to the humble." 1 Peter 5:5
To clothe your self with humility literally means to gird one's self with the white scarf or apron of slaves, which was fastened to the belt of the vest and distinguished slaves from freeman. We are slaves, or bond servants, to the living God. Let us prove that, by clothing ourselves in humility and humbling ourselves, at the foot of the cross. In 1 Peter, we are encouraged to show our subjection to one another by putting on humility - an exceedingly humble garment.

God giveth grace to the humble. We are "saved by grace" (Ephesians 2:8). Therefore, it is of the utmost importance, my dear friends, in order for us to be saved, that we humble ourselves before the Lord so that He can pour forth His grace upon His life. It is not possible for God to be exalted in our lives, if we are on the throne! If we are not brought low, He can not reign in our bodies.
"You will save the humble people; but Your eyes are on the proud, that You may bring them down." 2 Chronicles 7:14
We must cry out to Jesus to humble us! If you and I truly love the Lord, then we must be made low, and come to realize that we are His bond servants. But, when we do, we will truly have life! His life within us. He can then receive the glory due His name!! He reveals to us the depths of His heart, once we are truly surrendered. It takes complete abandonment to our pride, our dignity, and our high opinion of our self.
"If My people who are called by My name will humble themselves, and pray and seek My face, and turn from their wicked ways, then I will hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin and heal their land." Micah 6:8
"Every one that is proud in heart is an abomination to the Lord: though hand join in hand, he shall not be unpunished." Proverbs 16:5
Oh Jesus, please search out hearts and enable us to humble ourselves before your throne. Purge all sin from our lives, therefore stripping us of our pride, so that you may truly be glorified in and through us!

The point of life is not to search ourselves and get to know the depths of our heart so we can truly come to understand and know our inner-self. No, that is not what we are supposed to do at all!! We are to search God's heart, and get to know His inner-self by digging deeper into His word, and by His grace, enter into the Holy of Holies through prayer and supplication!
"For whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted."Luke 14:11
"Therefore submit to God. Resist the devil and he will flee from you. Humble yourselves in the sight of the Lord, and He will lift you up. James 4:10
"Live in harmony with one another. Do not be proud, but be willing to associate with people of low position. Never be wise in your own sight. Romans 12:16.
To be humble means:
  • Not rising far from the ground
  • As a condition, lowly, of low degree.
  • To be brought low with grief, and depressed.
  • Lowly in spirit
I was talking with a friend yesterday evening, and she was telling me how she has really been grasping that Jesus took the lowest spot. It really made me think - He truly became accursed, so that we might have life. The King of this universe, the Almighty Creator of heaven and earth actually died. He bore our sins, forgiving us of our trespasses. Oh the love of my Saviour! I now stand in audacity, so that all the world may know! He has given His life, now the very least I can do is give my life to Him, for Him.

He has already done the work, we just need to reckon it. Our Lord is the best Teacher! He has already shown us how to perfectly humble ourselves. He goes with us, to fight the battles against our enemy, in fact, He has already done the fighting and won victorious over sin. All that we need, my dear friends, is to draw near, to His loving kindness and never let go!

Teach us, oh Father, to show forth Your image. Show us, Lord where there is pride in our lives, and for Your glory, remove it from our hearts! Jesus, please humble me, bring me closer to you, on my knees. May the fear of the Lord become reality. Oh Saviour, may we partake in your sufferings? Holy One, teach us to seek you with our entire being, because you are the only reason we live! Thank you for your merciful heart towards us, and for letting us be the temple of the Unblemished Lamb. I love you Lord!
"He has shown you, O man, what is good; and what does the Lord require of you but to do justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly with your God?" 2 Samuel 22:28
Thank you for taking the time to read this... I pray that you are deeply encouraged to press further into His presence and step into new territory, claiming land that is rightfully His!!
Oh, that we may get more of Christ Jesus!! He is truly all that we need!

Fighting the good fight, for the King's glory and His renown,

Hannah Brooke Hartman
